He takes the time to address the impact of stress on the physiology of the body and goes on to discuss stress and illness, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Dr. Weiss describes some clinical cases that clearly show the benefits of learning relaxation and stress reduction skills in order to improve our health and well-being.
The real pearl in this book CD combination is the guided imagery CD for relaxation and peace. The background music (by Steven Halpern) is soft and beautiful. It is a perfect fit for Dr. Weiss’ extraordinarily soothing voice. The guided imagery meditation is skillfully presented, first in encouraging the release of tension and tightness from the muscles, then relaxing the breathing, all the while reminding the listener that we really can learn to consciously let go of stress and discover our true nature. The guided imagery allows us to drop layer after layer of tension and negativity so we can experience peace and joy. As Dr. Weiss states, “To let go of negative thoughts and emotions and to discover inner peace, joy, and happiness these are the goals. You will find life so much more enjoyable.” And, I’d like to add, everyone around you will find life so much more enjoyable.
If you are around someone who is crabby all the time, it is difficult to maintain your positive attitude. If you are around someone who is generally happy and peaceful, it will be much easier to maintain your own positive attitude. If you are the crabby one, please get this book and CD and start practicing. If someone around you is the crabby one, please get the book and CD and start practicing! You can try giving this to the crabby person, but they may not want to hear it. What we all can do is learn ways to manage our own stress through techniques such as these offered by Dr. Weiss, and begin experiencing relaxation and joy. In this way, not only will you experience more peace and happiness, but you will create a positive condition that makes it easier for everyone around you to be happier as well.
