|Recently, Money Magazine rated Boulder City as one of the “25 Best Places to Retire”. In fact, we were listed as number six. The reasons included the fact that we live close to Las Vegas so we can enjoy the benefits of a large city and yet we enjoy a small town lifestyle without the headaches of a large city. Another reason we were chosen is the recreational opportunities offered to our residents. The article lists both golf courses, our pool facility, and our racquetball complex. Bootleg Canyon is also listed with options for biking and hiking, as well as the new zip line adventure.
Of course, our recreational draw would not be complete without mentioning the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, as well as the Colorado River. Boulder City has much to offer and the world is now starting to recognize that.
Community events were also listed as a reason to retire in Boulder City. They listed the Best Dam BBQ in May, the Fourth of July Damboree Parade and Celebration, and the Boulder City Art in the Park in October. We all know there are other wonderful events as well that help shape our community.
We have our challenges as well, being a small community in the largest county in Nevada. We have enjoyed favorable utility and property tax rates. Although our electric rates will soon increase substantially, we will still enjoy better rates than most in Southern Nevada. I understand not everything is perfect, and we will work together to continue to make improvements.
I do not understand those who always complain about Boulder City. Of course mistakes have been made, but so many things were done correctly through the years by city leaders. We have a beautiful small city which we can be proud of. I would ask you once again to volunteer your time and talents and make Boulder City even better.
