Art in Boulder City -
The Local Grandma Moses
Move over Grandma Moses, Eleanor Beckert is now in town. Eleanor, now 92, is still going strong and painting up a storm!
|She moved to Boulder City in the ‘70s, and discovered Cliff Segerblom’s watercolor classes. She had played with watercolor painting prior to her move here, but with little success. But like many of Cliff’s students, Eleanor fell in love with his style and approach to the media and has been happily painting in watercolor ever since.
|Grandma Moses and Eleanor both started their painting experience late in life. Like Moses, Eleanor also uses natural settings for her subject matter, applying some bright, harmonious colors that jump from her pallet in quick deft strokes.
Eleanor’s work has an immediacy that translates into a joyous rendering. She loves to experiment with color combinations and like Moses, she brings a folk art quality to her work.
Eleanor is a true artisan; she not only paints, but extends her work to fabric. Using some of her favorite paintings, she composes the subject matter from scraps of fabric and then quilts them into wall hangings.

|She has also been a talented musician all of her life. A cello player, Eleanor played in her college orchestra, the Boise Symphony and the Henderson Symphony Orchestras, as well as local ensemble groups.
Last year Eleanor had to hang up her bow and no longer plays in the Henderson Symphony, but continues producing exciting, memorable art. She holds an Honorary Life Membership in the BC Art Guild and you may see her work at the Boulder City Art Guild Gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel.
