With the new process for sports registration, I am including a friendly reminder in this month’s article. All youth sports’ participants must be registered in order to be placed on a team regardless of what sport they are playing. Registration must take place by the last day of the sport’s fundament skill clinic. Upcoming youth sport’s fundamental skill clinics are basketball on December 5th and 6th for grades third through seventh and floor hockey on January 2nd and 3rd for grades kindergarten through second.
A waiting list will begin the day after registration ends, as teams will be made according to the number of registrants in each age division. The waiting list will not guarantee a position on a team, so this will be the most challenging change for some families. Pre-register at the Recreation Department office at 900 Arizona Street before the given deadline for each sport is mandatory to be guaranteed placement on a team. Early registration is the key!
Youths interested in floor hockey for grades third through sixth should contact the Recreation Department after February 1st to obtain the date for the fundamental skill clinic. This league will start after the younger age group is done.
To further prepare children for the basketball season, a basketball camp is offered December 26th to 28th and January 2nd to 4th for grades second through eighth. These camps take place from 1 to 3pm for a fee of $5 per day. Coach Jim Konst will work on fundamental skills to prepare children for a successful basketball league season.
During winter break, the Safekey program will operate 7am to 6pm, December 26th to 29th and January 2nd to 5th. The cost to participate is $20 per day per child and takes place at 900 Arizona Street.
Enjoy the holiday season! For more information, contact the Recreation Department at 702.293.9340.
