Tis the season for all things basketball at the Recreation Department. League youth basketball clinics for grades 3 through 7 are December 6th and 7th. The registration deadline for this league is December 8th. Games are expected to start the second week of January 2017.
During Winter Break, a Youth Basketball Camp will take place Monday through Thursday 10am to noon for grades 2 through 8. The fee to participate is only $5 each day and participants can pay for the entire week or per session. This camp focuses on basketball fundamentals and skills for the first hour and then provides scrimmaging for the second hour. Coach Jim Konst started these basketball camps that run during the summer and winter break. Just to give you an idea of how popular these camps are, I pulled some stats from this past season. From June 15th through August 18th, there were 805 payments at $5 each. That is an average of over 20 kids per day!
Moving into January, league floor hockey clinics will take place on January 3rd and 4th for grade K through 2. This particular sport is growing each year. I speak with experience when I say that watching these little ones chasing the hockey puck around the gymnasium floor is some of the best entertainment Boulder City offers. Although league floor hockey is available to grades 3rd through 6th, a clinic date cannot be scheduled for this age group until the conclusion of the basketball season. Clinics are expected to take place the end of February with games starting in March. Clinic dates and additional information for this particular age group will be available in early February.
The cost to participate in the basketball or floor hockey league is only $40 thanks to the generosity of our many sponsors who help to offset the remaining costs associated with the league and our volunteer coaches.
