Boulder City Chamber of Commerce Spring Jamboree
Mark your calendar for Boulder City’s first celebration of spring. The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce holds its 28th annual Spring Jamboree Saturday and Sunday May 6th and 7th. The festival, always the first weekend in May, will take place in the downtown city parks.

This 2 day event, which has evolved from the Chamber of Commerce Sidewalk Sales 29 years ago, will again showcase over 150 arts and crafts booths, lots of great food and much, much more. This year includes the addition of antiques and collectibles.

The first Spring Jamboree was held on a Sunday in 1978. It was slated as the first annual Spring Jam Sidewalk Sale held on Avenue B at Nevada Highway. Bernice Peplowski co-chaired that event with Phil Vanderwal. Jim Schumacher was also on that committee along with Bette Porter. Entertainment included Viva Pastor’s Dance Theatre group and special drawings. The following week, this article appeared in the Boulder City News:

“Drenched, describes the best thought out, cleverly written about, most widely advertised event to ever occur in our community of small business people. They struggled to show that no where is there another town the size of Boulder City that can exceed what we will become, price-wise and variety rich, if only the weather will behave the next time.”

A local merchant said “Neither rain nor hail, nor wind or gale can stop our 1979 Jamboree sale.”

With that same strength and drive, the Chamber will continue it’s all-out effort to provide our locals with the greatest family festival in the area.

For those of you who are car enthusiasts, The Pan Draggers again will have approximately 150 classic, antique and restored cars on display. Stroll the downtown streets and enjoy the Quilt Old Town event where quilts will be hung at many of the shops. The quilt exhibit, which has been expanded this year, was added just last year and proved to be very popular among locals as well as drawing welcome visitors from all over the valley.

The entertainment at the gazebo this year will include Aspen Ridge Blue Grass, Old Time Fiddlers, belly dancers, Michael Miele, karate demonstrations, children’s entertainer Francyl Gawryn, Country Spirit, as well as Neil Diamond and Elvis impersonators, and much more. Miss Boulder City will appear as an emcee. Saturday night we will clear Colorado Street for a dance featuring rising Country Western singer Tim Murphy.

Thanks to Miss Amy at Dance Etc., local 3, 4 and 5 year olds may participate in The Little Miss and Mister Pageant on Saturday. Applications are available at Dance Etc. The children will certainly enjoy the carnival and circus acts, pony rides, balloon twisters and children’s mural painting. Other events will include the 3-on-3 basketball tournament and City staff will defend their title as Human Checker champions.

The ever popular dog lovers, Bark in the Park event on Saturday is hosted by Spike, Molly, Diamond, and Allie. Awards will be given in 11 categories this year including the scruffiest dog, the dog owner look alike and the dog with the happiest tail. Contestants may sign up at the Chamber as well as at local vets, groomers, and at the park on the day of the event.
Again this year there will be a large variety of hot food and cold drinks. Returning vendors this year include Texas Twister fruit drinks, The Fry House, Giggles Ice Cream, The Corn Shack, Kettle Korn, Deez Nutz and Jillz Conez, as well as great Thai and Cajun food. Our local Events Unlimited food vendor will be the main provider of food.

The Chamber’s CEO, Jill Lagan says, “It’s always the best family festival of the year in Boulder City, and now we have even more to entertain and amuse the crowd. This year’s addition of more quilts and the antique and collectibles show will make this Spring Jam bigger and better than ever.”

This action-filled weekend is the major event sponsored by the Chamber and is it’s largest fundraiser. The proceeds from this event will allow the Chamber to be a sponsor of more projects and events to support local businesses and to provide fun, family activities for locals in our wonderful community. Such projects include Christmas events, providing scholarships for high school students, ribbon cuttings, mixers, hostess packets, educational seminars and meet and greets.

The Chamber invites you to bring your family and join friends and neighbors to celebrate spring in Boulder City at one of our most popular and exciting events. Don’t miss everything Spring Jamboree has to offer!
