While searching the web, have you ever wondered why all the ads that pop up are for the same thing? The reason is that the browsers and search engines you use to view the internet track your information. Also, websites you visit will leave cookies and other trackers on your computer to keep track of what you access. Once these tracking search engines process the information you “give” them, they use it to show you ads and modify your search results based on that information.
I have been using a new browser called Brave which I downloaded for free at Brave.com. This new web browser claims it does not track the websites you view, and it also blocks ads from websites. You can still save your favorite sites by bookmarking them and importing your old bookmarks.
After loading Brave, look to the right of the URL search bar, and you will find their lion head logo. Click on this logo to open the Brave Shield Panel. From here, you can adjust the level of protection for each website you access. With some sites, if you block the ads, the site will not work, or you might have to accept some cookies. With Brave, all of this tracking is adjustable to your specifications.
Now, about those tracking search engines. Try using DuckDuckGo.com. This search engine claims it will not track your search movement across the internet. And it can be set as a default within the Brave Browser. The two programs work well together to help you stay relatively cookie and tracking free. DuckDuckGo might not have all the bells and whistles of Google, but it will show you relatively unbiased search results.
