Mayor's Brief

Management Merry-Go-Round

Boulder City’s management team seems to be in revolving-door mode lately. Turnover often means changes and challenges, but it also brings invigorating new blood and fresh hope for the future.

Jennifer Lopez is our new Airport Manager. She brings enthusiasm, aviation acumen, and bulldog tenacity to her new position, all of which she’ll need to tackle new construction projects, tenant issues, and ongoing master planning. Please, hold the J-Lo jokes, she’s heard them all already!

New Community Development Director Michael Mays replaced Brok Armantrout who transitioned to become our Special Projects Coordinator and grant guru. Michael barely stepped foot inside City Hall before being bombarded with crash-courses on the Storybook Homes project, our unique development restrictions, and looming I-11 impacts. We’re thankful that he made the move from Chicago to join us.

Finance Director Hyun Kim departed in September, so Doug Honey stepped in while the search for a permanent replacement unfolds. Armed with institutional knowledge, Doug is one of our longest-tenured City employees.

After a three-month recruitment process, resulting in four very qualified finalists, former Assistant City Attorney and current Acting City Attorney Steve Morris was recently selected to replace Dave Olsen for the full-time position. Contract negotiations are underway, and we expect Steve (with prosecutor Gary Booker) to continue handling the City’s legal matters with great aplomb.

Finally, consultant Bob Murray & Associates is facilitating our nationwide City Manager recruitment process. 35 applicants have now been whittled down to fifteen for Councilmember input, and we are working to further narrow the field for finalist interviews in the coming weeks.
Please join me in welcoming all of our new management team members. The faces may be different, but I’m confident the City is still in capable hands.
