BCHS has one State Championship team from this winter sports season, and that's the boys bowling team.
Head Coach Rod Ball had his boys fired up all season, and they captured the Division 1-A State Championship by defeating Cheyenne 7-2. The Eagles outscored the Desert Shields 2,312 – 2,207.
"What a great season," Ball said. "It was a surprise, but we knew we had a shot. They are a good overall team, and they rose to the occasion at the state championships."
Boulder City won the first two games 756-714 and 828-762, while Cheyenne won the third game 731-728.
Sophomore Teagan Smale led the BC Keglers in the state championship with a 609 series, and 235 in the first game.
Junior Randall Berkheimer added a 588 series, senior Eddie Feeney a 566 and sophomore Dylan Amico a 549.
Smale finished second at the individual state playoffs and the MVP Tournament after the season was over.
Berkheimer threw to third at the individual state championships.
The other members of the varsity boys bowling squad are senior James Walsh and freshmen Conner Armstrong and Edward Rassuchine.
The members of this year's girls bowling team are: seniors Aliya Anders, Mariah Harvey, Amy Murphy, Nicole Schulz and Summer Smith; and sophomore Emily Owens.
The girls finished second in their division, and qualified for the state championships.
Smith earned third place in the individual championships and surprised everyone.
"We should be in good shape for a repeat on the boys side next year," Ball added, "and the girls will be into rebuilding mode."
Congratulations boys bowlers on your state championship!
