Second Annual Boulder City Restoration Workshop

May is National Preservation Month. With this in mind, the Boulder City Historic Preservation Committee will be sponsoring its Second Annual Restoration Workshop on Saturday, May 10, from 9:00am until 4:00pm. This free event will offer several speakers on various topics of interest to those that own or are interested in historic and other older homes.

The event will provide a choice of two speakers on differing topics each hour. Samplings of the type of topics to be discussed are: challenges of and resources for restoration, cabinetry replacement, paint coloring, lighting and hardware reproductions, architecture in Boulder City, and funding opportunities for restoring older homes. The most popular topic from last year will be returning – Desert Landscaping – taught by local horticulturist, Cheryl Waites. Due to the popularity of this particular subject, her event will be extended over a two session period, allowing for plenty of questions and answer, and open discussion time.

The Restoration Workshop will be held at the Elaine Kay Smith Center at 700 Wyoming Street, at the junction of Wyoming and Utah Streets. Check in, socializing, and refreshments will begin at 9:00am. There will be two workshop choices offered each hour: at 10:00, 11:00, 1:30 and 2:30. At the noon luncheon break, there will be a keynote speaker addressing historic home topics with not-to-be-missed information for those with historic homes. Throughout the day, the lobby will have informational tables covering topics such as: the history of local homes, Boulder City Museum information, opportunities to obtain historic plaques for your home, this year's Historic Preservation Award winner, and other areas of interest.

The Restoration Workshop provides a gathering place for people to discuss and share information, challenges, questions and answers. The event is free and open to everyone; you do not have to be a homeowner or live in the historic district to attend. The Restoration Workshop is being provided by Boulder City's Historic Preservation Committee as a day to honor the preservation of our City's older homes!
