Flag Football

There is a relatively new sport at the high school that has the Boulder City girls excited and playing very well. That sport is flag football, and this is only the second year it has been offered by the Clark County School District. The Lady Eagles love seven-on-seven flag football and have worked hard in the off-season to become the dominant team in their division for Head Coach Chris Morelli.

“We are undefeated so far this year,” Morelli said, “and are hoping to make a serious run in the playoffs. The girls have been fantastic and picked up the game really fast. They understand football!”

Morelli’s starters on offense are: sophomore Jeanne Carmell at quarterback, senior Jollene Gosselin and juniors Kinsey Smyth and Jane Nevarez at receiver, senior Cameron Kanaley at center, junior MacKenzie Pluta at offensive line, and sophomore Paige Buettner at running back. On defense, sophomore Makenzy Waldo joins Nevarez and Gosselin at cornerback; Smyth at safety; and the linebackers are: Buettner, the Kanaley sisters Logan, Cameron, and Carmell. The other members of the varsity flag football team are: seniors Ashlen Bhatia, Taylor Finn, Alejandra Restrepo and Courtney Scott; juniors Jessica Embro, Kelii Hatyfield and Kailynn Mantia; and sophomore Bryanna Lopez.

“I love coaching these girls,” Morelli added. “They work hard, and never want to have practice end. They wear me out!” Coach Morelli is promoting a Flag Football All-Star Game on May 17th at Shadow Ridge High School at 6:30pm. “It’s going to be an All-Star/Senior Game,” Morelli said. “We are inviting all the seniors to come out and have everybody participate because it’s only our second year. We are looking for sponsors. If you’re interested, please contact me at 808-2223 or crmorelli@interact.ccsd.net.”

“These girls are tough,” Morelli added. “We get a lot of bumps and bruises and split lips and we practice and play outside in the cold!”

Congratulations to all the members of the flag football team. We are very proud of you!
