We have a new online service to offer patrons of the Boulder City Library. We now subscribe to ZINIO, an online magazine database. You can now read several popular magazines online. All you need is a computer, the internet and your library card number. If you don’t have a computer or internet at home, we have computers available for use at the library. You will also be able to find articles you want to read by using the intuitive navigation and all-inclusive keyword search.
Because online magazine subscriptions cost as much, if not more, than paper magazine subscriptions, we are starting out with a selection of only 46 titles. The good news is that, unlike eBooks, more than one person can use an online magazine at the same time. Other good news is that there is little, if any, delay between the publishing date of the magazine and the online publishing date of that same magazine.
You can access our ZINIO collection at: http://bclibrary.org/zinio. You will need your library card number to create a ZINIO account and to log in.
We have some cross over with popular print-magazines that we already subscribe to. We also have a few titles that we don’t already get in print.
Magazines you will be able to read include: Arizona Highways, Aviation Week & Space Technology, Backcountry Magazine, Backpacker, Bicycling, Bloomberg Businessweek, Car and Driver, Digital Photo, Discover, ESPN The Magazine, Family Handyman, Field & Stream, Food Network, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, MacWorld, Men’s Health, National Geographic Interactive, Newsweek, Off-Road, PC World, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Rolling Stone, Scholastic Parent and Child, Sierra, Smithsonian, Taste of Home, Women’s Health, and more.
This is just a trial for this product. If you, our patrons, seem to like the service and use it to read magazines, we will put more funds into building this collection next year.
