Nevada Way Project

It is difficult to believe that it has almost been an entire year since the completion of the roadway improvements along Nevada Way. Looking back, I am especially proud of how this project incorporated many aspects of the City’s Strategic Plan. Goals 1, 3, 7, and 8 were all integrated into the Nevada Way improvement project.

Goal 1 seeks to further the City’s small town brand and maintain our “Clean Green” image. The landscaping along Nevada Way holds true to our City’s historic roots and will help us preserve an appearance that will continue to entice visitors well into the future.

Goal 3 focuses on protecting our investment in City owned assets. The Nevada Way project included replacement of old water lines, sewer mains, streetlights, and the street itself. Re-investment in these assets is critical to improvement of their reliability and efficiency.

Goal 7 emphasizes sustainability. All flora selected are water efficient and adapted to Boulder City’s desert environment. LED bulbs, which consume far less power than traditional light bulbs, were used for streetlights and landscape lighting. Finally, new decorative waste receptacles provide an opportunity for pedestrians to recycle waste along the City’s street. These receptacles provide citizens and visitors alike with the opportunity to become stewards of the environment while walking through our business corridor.

Finally, Goal 8 underscores the importance of mobility and multiple transportation methods. The Nevada Way project focused on providing multiple safe transportation options in our business corridor. Bike lanes were delineated for the entirety of the corridor, new bus shelters were constructed, and bus turn outs were built at both bus stops. Additionally, sidewalks were widened and separated from the curb with landscaping and crosswalks were shortened. These improvements create a safer and more attractive environment for pedestrians.

This City funded project addresses several Strategic Plan goals which help to fulfill one of my overarching goals to increase the number of visitors patronizing Boulder City businesses. Stimulating local business helps create local jobs and guarantees a vibrant and thriving community environment for all residents.
