A Theater Serving Up Classic Charm

One of the many things I like about Boulder City is it's  "small town charm." This charm is enhanced by many of the small locally owned businesses. A good example is the movie theater at the Hacienda Casino.

When you walk into the lobby of this "neighborhood theater" you'll feel instantly transported through time. The walls are covered with vintage movie posters and  other movie collectables, such as a 1950 Mitchell Movie Camera, once owned by Fox Studios. With little doubt, the most interesting inhabitant at this movie theater is its owner/operator, Gary Bouchard.

Gary has been running the theater for almost three years now and loves every minute of it. He wears a lot of hats, he's serving concessions and, in a flash, he's running to the booth to get the movie started. If you catch him at the right time between shows, he’ll be glad to answer any questions you have about movie history, especially if you like the old classics.

Speaking of the old classics, if you like to see those old masterpieces up on a big screen, from time to time the theater runs some of the greats, such as Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, White Christmas, True Grit, Gi Gi and  other greats. Of course, most of the time, the theater runs current first-run movies, and it's not uncommon for a color cartoon to sneak in ahead of the feature, just like the good old days.

The good old days are also well represented at the theater through their prices. Afternoon matinees are just $4.50 with evening shows only running $6.00 ($5.50 for seniors). The food is not only very reasonably priced with things like Pepsi, popcorn and hotdogs for only $2.00 each, but the quality is great! In fact, the variety and quality is just as good as any fast food restaurant, maybe even better. The menu includes, BBQ sandwiches, Angus burgers, all beef hotdogs and cooked to order pizza.

So, if you’re looking for a good time that's close by and  won't break the budget, I strongly recommend you give this neighborhood theater a try.

The theater is open Thursday through Monday, every week and is located inside the Hacienda Casino. For a current list of movies with showtimes, call 293-0266 or visit the website at
