Drifter Sister Catch the Wind Tours
Meet the lady behind Drifter Sister Catch the Wind Tours, and author of the Travel Now column in this magazine.
Ihla Crowley, a.k.a. Drifter Sister, has lived and worked in Boulder City for 21 years. You may remember her as the original Boulder City Chautauqua lady, or possibly one of the Desert Data ladies. You may have run into her volunteering at the Dam Short Film Festival, or Museum and Chamber of Commerce events. But right now she would like you to think of her as The Travel Lady.
Catch the Wind Tours began in 2007, when Ihla planned and escorted a group of her friends to Tuscany. Since then she has escorted five more tours to Italy, plus myriad others to varying parts of the world, including France, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Africa, Mexico, and Alaska, and her clients come from all over the country.
Specializing in small group (max 12), in-depth tours, Ihla feels Catch the Wind Tours fills a niche for people who are tired of the on-the-bus-off-the-bus-cattle-call routine, or those who have always traveled on their own but at this stage in life would prefer to have someone else take care of the planning and logistics.
Her signature, and most popular, tours are those in which you stay put in one or two places, and take day trips using the provided rental cars. These include the “Let’s Go” tours to Tuscany, France, and Spain. Other Catch the Wind Tours are all-inclusive, with guides, in small luxury motor coaches. And if you have a group of six or more, or in the case of Alaska two or more, she will arrange and escort a custom tour just for you.
Five Catch the Wind Tours are offered each year, always including Italy in the Spring and France in the Fall. Ireland and Spain are offered in alternating years, and then two or three ‘special’ trips are thrown in, often on a one-time basis. Two such tours this year are the Canadian Rockies via train (Aug 4-14), and Israel-Jordan (Oct 26-Nov 9) with spaces still available on both.
Ihla also represents Travel Guard travel insurance. Her motto here is Don’t Leave Home Without It, and she provides this service not just for those going on her tours, but for people taking cruises, other tours, or traveling on their own.
