Hoover Dam Town Hootenannies

Every year it seems like one big blur between Christmas bulbs and the Easter Bunny. Then, suddenly, it’s officially spring and our quiet little town turns into a social butterfly with a fun-filled month of outdoor festivities. Don’t miss out on what may be your last chance to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine. Just slip on your walking shoes, slather on the sunscreen and take your brood out to enjoy what Boulder City does best.

Get Jammin’: It doesn’t get more family-friendly than the Spring Jamboree. Held the first weekend in May, the 35th annual event offers a little bit of everything for the whole family. The kids will love the carnival rides, rock climbing wall, train, games and activities. Mom and Dad will enjoy perusing the booths, Hot Rod and Pedal car shows. And everyone will be entertained by the non-stop show that includes the Little Miss and Mr. Pageant, Bark in the Park, demonstrations by local civic and dance groups, musical acts and even an outdoor showing of Puss ‘N Boots. Bring a blanket and your lawn chairs and park yourself near the bandstand for the best seat in the house. Sponsored by the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. 401 California Avenue and surrounding parks. May 5th from 9am-6pm and May 6th from 9am-4pm.

Sizzling Good Time: It’s almost impossible to ignore the smell of barbecue in the air as serious competitors stoke their grills and season their meats for a chance to win the Nevada State’s KCBS-sanctioned Barbeque Championship with the opportunity to compete in the Jack Daniels World Championship. So come with an appetite but be ready to enjoy more than just the food at the 8th Annual Best Dam Barbecue. The Verizon Family Fun Zone will keep the younger set in motion with bounce houses, games, a rock wall and mechanical bull. For burgeoning barbecue chefs, there’s a KidsQue Competition for children aged 6-17. The older set will enjoy cold libations, live music, the Best Dam Car Show featuring classic cars and hotrods and a BC Police vs. Fire Department Rib Eating Contest that’s sure to get the crowd cheering. Presented by Boulder City’s Rotary Club. Friday May 25th and Saturday May 26th, Bicentennial Park.
