It’s that time again, to think about a gift for the traveler in your life. Here are a few ideas to consider.
My first recommendation is a set of noise cancelling headphones, by far the best travel item I ever purchased. Starting out years ago with an inexpensive pair made by Sony, from Radio Shack (~$50), I have since graduated to a sophisticated Bose version (~$250). Wow! If the recipient flies once or twice a year, the inexpensive Sony will be great, as it compactly folds up into its own little pouch; for the serious frequent flyer however, and if your budget allows, I would suggest the Bose. Its only drawback, besides price, is that it does not fold up so, it takes up more space in the carry-on than the smaller versions.
Next, for about $20.00 you can get a set of 3 Cubes. I still find these zippered nylon ‘pouches’ with mesh lids useful - perfect for organizing myriad items in a suitcase. They come in all sizes, and are very versatile. You can get them from Magellan’s (magellans.com), Travel Smith, or most luggage stores.
Another useful item, that would be a good stocking stuffer, is a Universal Plug Adaptor. The best one I have found, which includes a USB charger, is made by Kensington ($29.99 on their website, kensington.com).
A portable luggage scale would also be a great little stuffer. A bag may not seem too heavy leaving the States, but once filled with souvenirs it might reach the limit for the return flight. This little gadget will alleviate the anxiety of airline weight restrictions. Amazon.com has a selection ranging in price from $10.00 on up.
Finally, I have recently become aware of a great travel clothing line. Guys, probably the best thing you could give to your lady traveler is a gift certificate to Chico’s. Their Synergy line (a.k.a. Weekends at their outlet stores) is the greatest. The pants are lightweight, wrinkle-resistant and smartly styled, and the entire line of blouses, jackets, etc. is totally coordinated. There is a new Chico’s store in the Las Vegas Premium Outlets South.
Merry Christmas to all from Drifter Sister!
