With the holiday season around the corner, now is the time to sign up for some great classes at the Art Center to make some handmade gifts. There are several types of classes to register for including pottery, wire wrapping, soy candle making, beading, fused glass and cabochon glass. Many of these classes can accommodate younger children with some classes that require an adult to participate with the child depending on the child’s age. Each year, in the youth Fine Art Prep class, children make holiday cards. Look for their cards on display starting in November at the Parks and Recreation Department and Boulder Dam Credit Union. These cards are available for purchase on a donation basis and support the Art Center.
With the holiday season also comes the basketball season. Player rating clinics for grades 3-7 take place Tuesday, December 4th or Thursday, December 6th as follows:
Boys Grade 3-4 6:00pm
Girls Grade 3-4 6:30pm
Girls Grade 5-7 7:00pm
Boys Grade 5-7 7:30pm
Practices will start in late December with games starting in mid-January.
It is always rewarding to watch young athletes developing their skills. This is what inspired Lance Knight to sponsor the entire league for both the youth 2012/2013 basketball and floor hockey seasons. Although Mr. Knight does not have children of his own, he supports his friends’ children. He has attended many Recreation Department sponsored sporting activities and states that, “This is a way to give back to Boulder City, where I grew up.” Hats off to Mr. Knight for his generosity and commitment to Boulder City youth.
This league will need volunteer coaches. Those interested in coaching should contact Sports Coordinator Tay Deering at 293-9254.
The Men’s Competitive Basketball league organizational meeting takes place on Wednesday, December 5th at 7pm. Those interested in forming a team should attend this meeting.
For more information call the Recreation Department at 293-9256.
