The Boulder City Library District is our very own Library District. That means we are funded by your property taxes, based on geographic taxing districts. BCL was established according to Nevada state statutes in 1943, and is older than both LVCCLD and the Henderson Public Library District (HPL).
BCL is a contract library with LVCCLD. We pay an annual fee to share their online catalog and share materials between the two library districts. We also pay LVCCLD for a courier system which delivers books to us from their libraries and vice-versa. Because we have this contractual agreement with LVCCLD, you may use books from the LVCCLD libraries; you may return materials to those libraries or return those materials to our location. The LVCCLD libraries are located as far south as Laughlin and as far north as Mesquite and Bunkerville. We may also borrow materials from other LVCCLD contract libraries including Nellis Air Force Base, Springs Preserve and North Las Vegas Libraries.
Our agreement with HPL is much less formal. HPL allows patrons who reside in the Boulder City limits to register their BCL cards with HPL so that you may borrow books from any of the Henderson library branches. In return, Henderson patrons may also borrow materials from us. Since HPL has not offered us the chance to be in a contract with them that offers courier deliveries, we do not have the mutual return policies. If you borrow materials from HPL, you must also return those materials to HPL.
A long time ago, Libraries across the country realized that in order to serve our customers, we would need to share materials and services. That lead to agreements like those that BCL has with LVCCLD and HPL. Each library can’t afford to own every book printed, or as many copies of a popular title as are needed, but by working together, we can serve you better.
Contact the library at their website: bclibrary.org or by phone at 293-1281. The library is located at 701 Adams Boulevard.
The library is open 9-8:30 Monday to Thursday, 9-5 on Fridays, 11-4 Saturdays and closed Sundays.
