Observations

Here are some thoughts from various yoga students over the years:

“In the beginning, I was quite skeptical about taking yoga. I heard that it was a great way to decrease stress and learn different breathing techniques. In all honesty, I thought it was a glorified word for stretching…. I have realized that yoga is so much more than that.”

“I feel alive with yoga. I feel that the high point for me is the mind-body connection. My mind is not racing with busy thoughts or worries when I am in class. Nothing has ever provided me with that before.”

“As I started learning more about yoga, I realized that perhaps this could contribute to my happiness. Maybe I could be happy, calm, kind, and healthy. I have always been spiritual, and some people in my religion told me I should not go to yoga, that it would interfere with my religion. This couldn’t be farther from the truth for me. Yoga has helped me deepen my spirituality. I see now that yoga is more than postures or putting yourself into weird positions, it’s about energy, and it’s about my heart. I am learning about myself and how to relate to other people in a more positive way.”

“I realized that how I feel about myself directly coincides with how my friends and family feel around me. Thus began my inner transformation. All my life, people have been telling me that I need to be patient. I tell them I don’t have time to be patient. In yoga being patient means being in the moment, being aware of what is happening right now. Yoga has helped me put the brakes on my crazy, scattered mind. I feel like I can breathe life into my body, into my soul, and into my day.”

“Breathe… that was the instruction… Breathe. I realized that I was holding myself together for fear of falling apart. Just breathe. This was liberating to me.”

Yoga classes at Dance Etc. are from 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. There is a lot of great yoga in Boulder City. My advice to every yoga student is, if you try yoga and you don’t like it, please try another class or instructor. There is good yoga for everyone if you find the right fit.
