SkyDive Las Vegas
by Brent Buckner

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Do you have the undeniable need to get the ultimate rush? Try jumping out of a perfectly good airplane from 15,000 feet with nothing between you and the ground but your tandem instructor and your parachute. Skydiving has long been known as a sport reserved for experts and the certifiably insane. However, this is no longer the case due to modern training, equipment, and especially tandem skydiving – exactly what Skydive Las Vegas specializes in.

Tandem skydiving is a where a student skydiver is attached to a tandem instructor, or jump master, via a parachute harness. The instructor guides the student through the whole jump from exit through freefall, piloting the canopy, and landing. The student needs only minimal instruction before making a tandem jump.

Tandem skydiving is the most popular training method for first time skydivers because it exposes first-time jumpers to skydiving with minimal expectations from the student. The training may consist of many of the activities performed by any skydiving student, for example, how to exit the aircraft, how to do maneuvers in freefall, and how to deploy the main canopy themselves. However, the tandem master remains primarily responsible for safe and timely parachute deployment, canopy flight and landing.

Skydive Las Vegas, the longest running operation at the Boulder City Airport, has been throwing first-time jumpers out of airplanes over the Boulder City Airport since the early 1990s. We offer arguably the finest first-time skydiving experience in the world. We strive to do everything bigger, better and safer than other skydiving centers. We use only the newest and finest of everything. We operate a brand new 2009 PAC-750XL skydiving airplane, the only airplane designed specifically for skydiving. All of our skydiving equipment is brand new and state-of-the art. We operate out of the largest and nicest skydiving facility in Nevada. We are continually striving to improve everything about the experience. Besides the new skydiving aircraft and equipment, we are also leading the industry in offering high definition videos in several formats, including Blu-ray.

Since Skydive Las Vegas is located in Boulder City, the view we offer is almost as breath-taking as the jump itself. When you are in the airplane and on freefall you can see the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, the Colorado River, the beautiful golf courses of Boulder City, the Las Vegas Strip, Mt. Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, the Valley of Fire and so much more. Our landing zone is located next to our facility on the airport, so upon landing our students walk right back into our facility to complete their skydive experience. This also makes it ideal if you have friends and family coming out to watch you skydive as they can watch your experience all the way from gear-up to landing your parachute.

Behind the scenes, the people that make it all happen are some of the most skilled and experienced skydivers in the sport. Tandem instructors must have at least 3 years of skydiving experience, a minimum of 500 skydives, hold a Class III FAA Medical Certificate, and be a current member of the United States Parachute Association (USPA), the governing body of skydiving in the United States. They are then eligible to complete a tandem instructor certification course through both the equipment manufacturers and the USPA. Our instructors typically have several thousand skydives to their credit and must demonstrate skills much higher than the typical tandem instructor. For example our chief instructor has over 15,000 skydives to his credit. All this shows in our amazing safety record as Skydive Las Vegas has never had a student fatality or serious injury of any kind in its almost 20 year history.

Due to our longevity, safety record and reputation for being the best, Skydive Las Vegas is typically the destination for first-time jumpers of all types, backgrounds and locations – young, old, celebrities, athletes, couples getting engaged, couples getting married, young people celebrating their 18th or 21st birthdays, adults celebrating their 30th, 40th or 50th birthday, seniors celebrating their 70th, 80th or 90th birthday – the list goes on and on. No longer can it be said that skydiving is only for the young and crazy. We say skydiving is for anyone that wants to have the time of their life!

Skydive Las Vegas has been in operation since 1993 and is the longest running skydiving center in Nevada.  We operate 7 days a week, 365 days a year and on holidays. We specialize in student tandem skydiving, in our opinion the cheapest, fastest, easiest, safest way to do your first skydive.
