Spring Jamboree - A World Away For TWO Days
by Jill Rowland-Lagan

To Las Vegas, Boulder City may be A World Away For A Day, but for those of us who live in and love Boulder City, we know that Spring Jam is our World Away For TWO Days. We look forward to the beginning of Spring and the season of so many wonderful events. Spring Jam opens that season with the greatest of family fun.

Over 250 cars in the annual Pandraggers Rod Run offers Dads a place to get lost for hours, as Moms peruse the 150 booths of arts, crafts, antiques, collectibles, and Chamber businesses. The kids will spend hours at the carnival and testing their skills to win aquatic frogs and sand crabs. There will be a rock climbing wall with a special salute climb to our town’s heritage featuring a “High Scaler”. Back by popular demand is the train tour which will take children around the park’s footprint. Even the family pet squeals with excitement to come to the park and take center stage in the annual Bark in the Park event, with all proceeds going to “See Spot Run” for the building of our new Dog Park.

Those athletic competitors among you, please enter the 3rd Annual Nikki Anderson-Mangin Scholarship 5K Run and Walk. All proceeds go to the Boulder City High School Scholarship for our local graduates to further their athletic programs in college. This run is in memory of the amazingly talented and beautiful Nikki Anderson-Mangin honoring her athleticism and desire to give back to her community. Mr. Jim Konst will also bring back the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in the Parks and Rec Gym. All proceeds from this annual event go to the Boulder City High School Basketball Team. The Chamber is very grateful to all involved in this event and look forward to seeing the funds raised go to worthy causes like our local school and youth.

The stage entertainment starts on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and goes all day through the rockin’ Street Dance with Brazzo’s Country Western Band that night at 7 p.m. But wait… there’s more. Sunday the stage lights come on again at 9 a.m. and will be thumping until 4 p.m. with more talented musical artists. The schedule of all performers will be online at www.springjamboree.com and in local publications.

Chamber Showcase features member businesses and allows them to take up real estate in Bicentennial Park right where all the traffic is. With such a captive audience, merchants have the opportunity to promote their wares and capture effective leads. If you have a message to send, a need for potential new clients or simply want to showcase your company name, be sure to enter the Chamber Showcase. Applications are available on line at www.springjamboree.com or at the Chamber office.

A new component to this year’s event is “Pre-Jam”. We’ve had requests to extend the fun to include Friday night. Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Dr. Eldon Clothier, we will be holding another “Movies In The Park”. It will begin at 7 p.m. on April 29th on the Gazebo at Bicentennial Park. Bring your chairs and blankets and have a wonderful evening under the stars with your whole family. Several food vendors will be open and popcorn will be available for those traditionalists! Dr. Clothier will be there to remind you to brush your teeth as soon as you get home! The picture will be a Disney movie with the title to be announced.

All through Boulder City, businesses participate in this energizing weekend. Many have great sales, sidewalk events, special guests, and extended hours. Watch for ads from your favorite business, sale signs in windows, balloons at the door or inquire with them about what they plan to do to make their business “pop” during Spring Jam when over 35,000 people take part in our community event. Those guests come from Dolan Springs, Meadview, Laughlin, Bullhead, Searchlight, Henderson, Las Vegas, Mt. Charleston, St. George and right here in Boulder City.

The Chamber office has already taken many phone calls from residents asking if they can volunteer at the event to assist the Chamber in its fundraising efforts. We love that and can’t wait for May 1st and 2nd to see so many locals come together and make the event a wonderful success, because of their service to the community. If you’d like to join them, whether it be working in the information booth directing guests through the park, volunteering to assist a handicapped artist in setting up their booth, or yes… even picking up trash, we’d love to have you. The event itself is a blast, but coming together as Jam volunteers makes friends and warms hearts by giving service back to our home town. Call or stop by the Chamber and check out the sign-up list. We’d love to have you and make sure you’re appreciated.

The money raised from Spring Jam allows the Chamber to put on special events such as the Christmas Santa’s Electric Night Parade and the Annual Tree Lighting, create brochures and distribute them outside of Nevada, and to assist in many donations to other not-for-profit organizations as they put on their community events.
