Artist Profile -
Eleanor Beckert’s early years in Lansing, Michigan are when her love of art was born; love of music that is. She played in the Lansing Symphony Orchestra while she was in high school. Her studies took her to Michigan State College with a major in plant pathology but her love of music continued in the college orchestra.
|Graduating with a bachelor’s degree, Eleanor started work on her masters degree but ended up with an MRS when she met and married Bill Beckert.
Eleanor worked as a bacteriologist at the Michigan Department of Health during World War II. During these years she always had a desire for drawing but had no time to pursue it. After the war, she worked in the Jackson, Michigan City Health Department, but after a while the State Department called her back to work in their diagnostic lab.
In the early 1960s Eleanor and Bill moved to Oregon and she attempted to do some watercolor painting on her own. She was very disappointed and couldn’t find a good instructor. Later, she moved to Idaho and again attempted watercolor, with no success. However, Eleanor did have success in her first love when she was accepted into the Boise Symphony Orchestra.
|When Eleanor moved to Boulder City in the 1970s, she began doing needlework and wanted to do some design work. She decided to take some design classes. Through connections, she discovered artist Cliff Segerblom and finally got some good watercolor instruction. Cliff led her to Judy Barton and she still attends Judy’s classes diligently. She has attended many workshops with well-known artists as instructors. She loves to paint landscapes, mostly Southwest, florals and some animals. She has tried other painting media but always comes back to watercolor.
