What Nevadans Have At Stake In This Election
On November 4, 2008, Nevadans and all Americans will make a vital decision about who will be our future leaders. This year’s election is an important moment in American history, and Nevada is one of a handful of key states that will decide the outcome.
Boulder City Magazine®
|I was able to leverage my position as Senate Majority Leader so that Nevada would have earlier caucuses, ensuring Nevadans’ voices would be heard in this process. This year, the road to the White House runs through the West, and it’s clear that the eyes of the nation are on our state to see what happens.
Our country is facing enormous challenges. Our economy is hurting, and every Nevadan is feeling it. From struggling to pay the mortgage to buying groceries, and from filling the tank to sending our kids to school, it’s all middle-class families can do to get by. For veterans, seniors, and the disabled, I know you’re concerned about whether there will be enough doctors to care for you and whether you will be able to afford the medication they prescribe.
While these days are filled with uncertainty, they are also filled with opportunities to get our country back on track. That’s what elections are all about; and it’s clear voters on both sides of the aisle are hungry for change. Now they have to decide which candidate will actually deliver the change we so desperately need.
We need to elect leaders who will get our economy moving again through smart economic policies that protect consumers. We need leaders who will reduce our reliance on oil and create jobs by investing in Nevada’s vast renewable energy resources. And we need leaders who understand that we need to make America more secure by ending the war in Iraq and providing the resources we need to win in Afghanistan. And we need to elect leaders who oppose turning Nevada into a nuclear dumping ground.
As I have already stated, Nevada is an important state in this election, and every Nevadan has the opportunity to make his or her voice heard in November. I strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to learn more about the issues and each candidates’ position on the ones most important to you. Then get out there and vote.
