Holiday Help
I was at a fabric store this past weekend, and an awful truth smacked me right in the middle of the forehead: Both Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here much sooner than we realize, and it is not too soon to start planning. If you want to borrow books to help you plan your holiday meal, make special holiday favors, or to make a special holiday gift, there is no time like the present to visit the library.

Several people have mentioned to me that they are looking for new recipes to jazz up their regular holiday faire. We have lots of cookbooks for you to find new recipes and tips for entertaining. If you want to find out specifically about Thanksgiving or Christmas Cookery, look through the books at 641.568. Perhaps you are interested in exploring a different type of ethnic cookery for the holiday season? Scandinavian cooking was particularly popular in the Midwest during the holiday season, and you can find books about Scandinavian cooking at 641.5948. Perhaps you want to look south of the border and consider Brazilian cooking at 641.5981. And if you are looking for new cookie or candy recipes, we can help you find quite a few new cookbooks, and offer to help out as taste-testers as well!
Thinking about making your own holiday cards this year? We have books about crafting your own cards. Is it time to brighten up that tired wreath from the past several years? We have a lot of books on making wreaths and floral designs. Looking for some special things to keep the kids busy to help prepare for the holidays? We particularly have a lot of books full of kids’ holiday crafts. If you want to make special gifts this year, we have all sorts of things to help you learn to knit or almost any other kind of craft you can come up with. We even have books to help inspire new ways of wrapping your gifts!
Remember though, the secret to getting all of these wonderful sources is to come to the library NOW. Don’t wait until November to get Thanksgiving stuff, or December for Christmas materials, because other people will have beat you to them! Happy Holidays!
