Here and There
You haven’t visited the Boulder Dam Hotel recently? It’s high time you did! Guest rooms have been refurbished, but alas, when I’ve tried to get a quick peek, the Hotel is FULL! Today for example, the No Vacancy sign was prominent at the registration desk and the comfortable new lobby furniture was rearranged for a wedding.

The Restaurant at the Boulder Dam Hotel offers creative, tasty menu twists on old favorites in the bright, cheerful dining room, or the Spillway Lounge with a new Connie Ferraro mural, or the delightful Tearoom. Call (702) 293-3510 for reservations. Online hotel reservations may be made at www.boulderdamhotel.com. Connie’s larger 30s themed mural has transformed the hallway leading to the Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum, unique shops and Art Guild Gallery. Local artist Lynn Jordan’s work is currently showcased near the Museum. The Gallery is featuring Ihla Crowley, another local, through December.

Thank you Cheryl Ferrence! If you haven’t seen her new book, “Around Boulder City”, stop in the Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum Gift Shop to check it out. Filled with wonderful photos and informative captions, Cheryl compiled our city’s history to benefit the Museum. I was lucky enough to attend the recent book signing in the Hotel Lobby. Every resident should read this delightful journey into Clean Green Boulder City’s past!

Neat Nevada Notes: About 265 miles north on Highway 93, more than 6,400 feet above sea level, Ely is high enough for snow and crisp clear air, perfect for the Sights, Sounds and Smells of Christmas! Sponsored by White Pine County Tourism & Recreation Board, this annual celebration of Christmas begins the day after Thanksgiving. Friday, December 5, Bristlecone Convention Center morfs into Candy Cane Lane, a Wonderland of Christmas trees, wreaths and hand crafted items up for live and silent auction. Entertainment by a renowned Canadian Celtic performer caps an old fashioned holiday evening. Admission is free and appetizers are complimentary. Saturday is the Crafter’s Festival with Nevada and Utah vendors. Parade of Lights completes the celebration. For information, 800-496-9350 or ccmanager@mwpower.net.
