Play near home this summer just down the hill from us at Hemenway Harbor in the Boulder Basin of Lake Mead. Millions of visitors trek to Lake Mead annually and here we have it literally in our own back yard! How lucky is that? With something for everyone, you can rent water toys if you don’t have your own, or cruise the lake on the “Desert Princess” and leave the driving to the pros! There are three restaurants, Las Vegas Boat Harbor, 293-1191, Lake Mead Marina, 293-3484, and the “Desert Princess”, 293-6180, with a variety of menus, and stunning views of our sparkling high desert lake.
NEAT NEVADA NOTES: Gold Hill is a tiny mining community nestled in the canyon between Virginia City and Silver City. Nevada’s oldest, the Gold Hill Hotel was established in 1859. Today it’s an adventure to stay at the Gold Hill Hotel, visit their gift shop and experience Rural Nevada Hospitality! Call for reservations, 775-847-0111, and visit goldhillhotel.net for a rundown on their rooms. Once home to more than 8,000 residents, Gold Hill developed around the original Comstock Lode site. Although by 1960 population dwindled to 30, it has since grown. If you are lucky, during a visit to Gold Hill you might encounter star resident David Toll, noted Nevada historian and author of The Complete Nevada Traveler.
