The Arts by Darrell McGarvey Boulder City Art Guild Artist Profile - Cindy Bandy If anybody could be identified as the “backbone” of the arts in Boulder City, it would have to be Cindy Bandy. She has served as President of the Boulder City Art Guild and as Gallery Director for many years.

Many know her through other worthy functions with the City and other organizations. I haven’t the slightest idea of how many she is or has been involved with but I know it is more than the number of fingers I have! I know she is Treasurer of the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association who owns and runs the Boulder Dam Hotel, the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum and the Gift Shop. They lease space to the Art Guild Gallery and the other shops and offices throughout the building. Cindy is also a CCOP (Concerned Citizen On Patrol) and patrols the city in her maroon PT Cruiser. She is also a long-time Trustee with the B.C. Friends of the Arts (formerly the B.C. Arts Council). I’m sure she wears many hats I’m not aware of. Cindy has been a BC resident for over 30 years. She and her husband Ken have both traveled extensively, but the Southwest is still her favorite subject to paint. She paints in oils primarily and loves to mix oil and wax for effect. She works in all media but we seldom see pastels or watercolors. She loves oil paints!

One thing Cindy does that I admire is her ability to dig deep into her subjective mind and write about the subject first, and then paint her creations with her flowing thoughts, thereby making a painting from within and not a mere picture. Cindy has studied with artists Joe Mast, Milford Zornes, Cliff Segerblom and at the Lesnick Art Studio with Artist/Writer Steve Lesnick. She has garnered many awards through the years and she says they are too numerous to list here.

Her work is on display in various exhibits in Boulder City and can always be found in the Boulder City Art Gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel. Visit the Boulder City Art Guild at www.bouldercityartguild.org
