Artist Profile -
Bill Ruth
William “Bill” Ruth was born and raised in Steubenville, Ohio a few years back and must have been a fairly husky kid! Football and wrestling are all he talks about. He also has had an interest in fine art all his life. When he travelled with his wife, Nancy, they would visit art galleries all around the world.

After High School Bill attended and received degrees from the Franciscan University of Steubenville and the University of Dayton, Ohio. He played football for four years at Brandeis University and was captain of the wrestling team there. Bill attended boot camp in the U.S. Marine Corps at Paris Island, South Carolina in 1958. He received his master’s degree from Northern Arizona University in 1972.

Bill went into teaching in Ohio and Kentucky until he was offered a job at EG&G in Las Vegas and came out to the warm country. The job was frozen so he went back to teaching at the Clark County School District where he taught business and coached football, wrestling and baseball until he retired in 2000.

Bill found he had nothing to do so he took some art lessons from Laura Mann and Lois Payne. He has been showing prize winning art ever since. He won the “People’s Choice” award at the Caliente Nevada Art Show in 2002. He had exhibits at Liberty Point in Henderson, in Salt Lake City, at the Boulder City Fine Arts Festival and at the Boulder City Winter Arts Festival. Oil painting is his medium of choice. He has been featured artist at the City Lights Gallery and Liberty Point and is currently the featured artist in the Boulder City Art Gallery located in the Boulder Dam Hotel. His winning piece pictured here won the Alice Davis Memorial Award.

Bill and Nancy have two children, Kevin, who is the wrestling coach at BCHS and his twin sister, Karen, who is a speech therapist in the school district.
