Spring In Your Step

Have you found the cold, windy, winter has slowed you down and mellowed your pace? Are you looking for that special activity or event to help put a little more bounce into your pounce? Then I’ve got just the thing for you... Spring Jamboree 2008! Come add a little spring to your step and get out and see the beautiful weather and brightly colored flowers. This has got to be the best time of the year in Boulder City and I’ve got a great way for you to celebrate... Spring Jamboree 2008! I can’t think of a finer time to join your friends and neighbors in the clean, green parks of the Historic District and soak in the warm sun, great entertainment, fun carnival rides, festival food, talented artisans, and stunning hot rods. There are so many activities that are now associated with Spring Jam, I’m not even sure where to begin. How about May 2nd, that seems to be the best place to start. As you drive by the government park area, you’ll see quite a buzz as we begin the tremendous job of setting up for such a large event. It’s always interesting to watch our beautiful lawns transform into marketplaces, stages, rides and car displays. If you’re a local business in Boulder City, you’ll probably get to meet some of the artists that will be in town that week. They always request information about retail, restaurants, hotels/motels and things to do while they spend the weekend learning more about our quaint town.

Saturday, May 3rd, you’re going to want to get out of your pjs early and head to the park. Entertainment begins at 9 a.m. and won’t quit until we’re exhausted from rock’n and roll’n that night with FORCE III, a talented classic rock band. There will be many locals performing and of course the traditional Little Miss and Mister Contest and the beloved Bark in the Park, with proceeds going to See Spot Run again this year. If you have little ones, you won’t want to miss a special guest appearance of BOO the Clown. If you have cable TV, you’re kids have probably watched him many times. When you’re not relaxing at the stage you can enjoy the exhilarating carnival rides, jumping on the bungee trampoline, strolling through the Arts and Crafts, Model Car Show, Antiques in the Park, Pandraggers Rod Run car show and the amazing Quilt Old Town outdoor quilt show. Every year each of these fun events gets bigger and better. And the best part is, it’s all FREE. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy spring in BC than a fun, family festival in the park.

Sunday, May 4th will also be an amazingly full day of entertainment. The hometown favorite, The Legends, will be on loan to us from the Hacienda to perform from center stage. They’ve been on the “request back” list for three years in a row. Sunday is my favorite day to walk around the Old Town area and visit with the merchants and restaurants. You can often see great sidewalk sales and enjoy a few minutes on a shady bench while people-watching as our guests enjoy Boulder City. So this year will be the 31st Annual Spring Jamboree, but it will be the First Annual Nikki Anderson-Mangin Foundation 5K Fun Run. After Nikki’s passing, many of her friends and relatives decided to put together a scholarship foundation that would provide eligible BCHS graduating seniors the opportunity to apply for a volleyball scholarship in honor of her. Nikki loved playing with her winning BCHS team and this Fun Run fundraiser will help her family give back to the community she loved. Watch for more details on this coming soon.

How great it is that the Boulder City residents and guests to our town have supported us in so many ways. Not only by shopping local with our members, but also by participating in all the special events in our community. Remember, events bring tourism, tourism brings revenue, and revenue means a healthy economy for Boulder City.

Boulder City is quite lucky to have so many wonderful organizations that provide awesome special events to our residents. Whether this spring you enjoy walking your dog down the red carpet at the Celebrity Dog Walk, strolling through fine art at the Fine Arts Festival, watching the sun rise over Lake Mead, relaxing in a comfy dining chair at one of the many sidewalk cafes, or joining us at the 31st Annual Spring Jamboree for tons of fun, Boulder City has something to offer everyone. Don’t miss a thing!!!!
