Robots

This month I had fun looking into robots. Here are some good ones I found:

Flytech Dragonfly is an RC (remote control) Dragonfly. The Dragonfly is a flying insect that flaps it’s wings like a real bug. You can buy it from radio shack for $49. The Dragonfly can flutter, soar, dive-bomb and glide. Make sure you keep it away from your pets and the bug lights.

Pleo Dinosaur is an organic life-form robotic baby dinosaur. It’s a Camarasaurus, a plant eating dinosaur from the Jurassic period. It’s about the size of a really fluffy house cat, with big blue eyes and a chubby, playful body. Pleo is equipped with senses for sight, sound, and touch. It learns as it explores its environment. The Pleo will exhibit genuine reactions to sensory stimuli. Although it is not available yet, when available, it will retail for about $300.

Robosapien Humanoid Robot is a 24" tall Robosapien capable of autonomous behavior with sight, sound and touch senses. It has humanoid body movements including bending, sitting, standing, lying down and getting up, waving and martial arts. It responds verbally to environmental stimuli and to controller commands. It exhibits true bi-pedal walking with multiple gaits, and has precision gripping with articulated fingers. The price is reasonable at $169.99.

My Favorite Animatronics Project is on willettfx.com. It's an animatronic monster, and its creator is Gary Willett. I have been following this monster project for a while. He is making everything by hand and videtaping the whole process. Gary posts some of the video clips on youtube.com. Just search for “willettfx” and you will see a list of videos.
