Did You Know?
Right here in Boulder City, we have Poopshoot, Diva, G-String and Armageddon, just a sample of Bootleg Canyon’s Downhill Mountain Bike Trail names. Cross Country Mountain Bike trails aren’t as colorful; Girl Scout, Boy Scout, and Skyline are a few. bootlegcanyon.org lists all the trails.

One Cross Country trail is certified as an “Epic” ride by the International Mountain Bike Association. We have the only Epic designation in Southern Nevada although Northern Nevada has 3. Check out imba.com for others.

Considered one of the top ten biking areas in the U.S., Bootleg Canyon offers year-round opportunities to experience our spectacular high desert scenery up close. Drawing visitors from around the world, Boulder City companies offer guided Mountain Biking for individuals, groups and locals. Whether a novice or experienced, there’s a trail for you. Emphasis is on rider safety. Number one rule of the trail gives right-of-way to Canyon residents, our stately Mountain Sheep. What a great close to home activity, perfect for outdoor minded friends and family! Details: bouldercityoutfitters.com or 800-748-3702 and desertadventureslv.com or 510-4746. Access Bootleg Canyon at the intersection of Canyon Road and Industrial.

Sean Hawkins, a local guide and mountain bike instructor is understandably enthusiastic about this venue. With 15 years of mountain biking in his blood, Sean chose Boulder City over South Lake Tahoe 3 1/2 years ago to share knowledge, experience and his love of the sport. Sean says with over 30 miles of trails, our canyon isn’t as large as the biking area at Moab, Utah but presents respectable technical challenges for bikers on all levels. Age isn’t as important as physical size so bikers are correctly matched with the equipment. Beginners get basic instruction on technique for riding up and down hill and surviving ruts! Wow, we probably all need that lesson!!

NEAT NEVADA NOTES: Our wonderful State is seventh largest in the U.S. with 110,540 square miles where our State Grass grows! Indian Rice Grass was ground into flour for bread by Native Americans; it was an excellent nutritional source.
