Introducing Brad Appleby
I may be introducing Brad Appleby for the first time in writing, but he is hardly new to this magazine- or Boulder City.

Many of you already know Brad from his community involvement and business activity - Appleby Arts. For the past couple of years he has designed ads for several of the Home Guide advertisers.

In addition to his artist duties, and while I had him trapped in the office, I would threaten him with bodily harm if he didn't help me with some of the computer problems I have while producing this publication.

When I decided to publish Boulder City, The Magazine, I asked Brad to be my partner and take over the duties of Art and Advertising Director. This time, I didn't have to threaten him. We started working on a transition issue for the January publication.

February, we moved to the glossy cover which was timely considering the opening of the new location for the Chamber of Commerce. The glossy cover was an appropriate display for a beautiful addition to Boulder City - thanks to Bob and Donna Draney. (If you missed the tribute try to find a February issue).

I am pleased to formally welcome Brad to Boulder City, The Magazine and the Boulder City Home Guide which has become an integral part of OUR magazine's pages. Read Brad's bio on the adjacent columns.

Not exactly a "shrinking violet," retired United States Air Force Staff Sgt. Brad Appleby, member of the famous Thunderbirds for his last three active years of service, has made great strides in Boulder City, personally and professionally.

Those last three years as Phase Dock and Quality Assurance Inspector along with the duties of Computer System Manager, gave Appleby considerable experience for his move to civilian life. Although he had seen much of the world while in the Air Force, he chose Boulder City with its great "hometown atmosphere" to make his post retirement start.

Appleby, born in Cedar Rapids Iowa 43 years ago, is happy with his location choice and certainly with his wife DeAnne, his partner in Appleby Arts, a business they started in 1999.

"In Boulder City there is such a sense of pride in the people," Brad says. "I love being involved here."

Appleby worked with DCI Photography and MyDas Marketing in Boulder City before making a move to start his marketing, web design, and graphics company.

Since opening his business he has made a point of becoming involved in the community and its functions. He joined the Chamber of Commerce, was elected to the Board of Directors, and moved quickly through the ranks to his currently held President's position.

Brad, says his goal as President has been to market the town itself instead of concentrating on individual businesses.

"I want to pull together the entire city and open it up to everybody to help promote each other's activities."

Instead of one business working alone he feels the businesses should all work together and combine their efforts for the benefit of the City. Since his member business (Appleby Arts) is in the marketing business, he feels he has used his company as an asset to help Boulder City Chamber of Commerce, which in turn has helped all of the business community.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Jill Lagen, who has worked closely with Brad, agrees that Appleby's talents have brought many oportunities to businesses in Boulder City.

In addition to Appleby's involvement with the Chamber, he is also Chairman of the Boulder City Library Board, a member of the Arts Council Board, and an instructor at the Community College of Southern Nevada in Boulder City, teaching computer and digital photo courses.

Brad Appleby assumes the duties of the Art Director and the Advetising Director for Boulder City, The Magazine."

Ed note: Appleby Arts was selected by the Boulder City Chamber Commerce as Business of the Year in 2001 - 2002 prior to his becoming President in 2003.
